Admission Conditions:

Applicants are above 18 years old or with high school education diploma can apply for the group class courses. If you are under 18 years old,  you are suggested to take one-on-one  courses.

Application:

Application Methods and Necessary Documents

  1. Fill in the  online applicatoin form
  2. Prepare the necessary documents with scanned files and email to clc@thu.edu.tw

The necessary document includes:

  1. 2" inch passport style photo
  2. Photocopy of your passport Valid for at least 6 months and a full blank page in the passport for the visa
  3. Photocopy of highest-degree diploma
  4. Preferable Chinese name
  5. Proof of financial support in English
    • A financial statement issued within 3 months that shows an ending balance exceeding USD3,000 or its equivalent.
    • If using a family member's financial statement, please ask her or him to write a guarantor letter stating willingness to support your stay in Taiwan.
    • USD1,600 in available funds will be required for candidates of HES(Huayu Enrichment Scholarship)
  6. Those intending to stay in Taiwan for more than 180 days must apply for a resident visa.

A resident visa application must include proof of financial support. If you are receiving a remittance, you must provide proof of kinship with the provider (e.g. a marriage certificate, a birth certificate with parents' names, etc.) and a remittance record.

When showing proof of financial support, if you wish to first deposit your remittance into a Taiwanese bank account, then please wire the money. If depositing cash, you must provide proof of currency exchange from your bank.

Money deposited any other way will not be accepted by the foreign office.

  1. If you do not need to apply for a visitor visa for studying Chinese, Please provide one of the following:

  2. One photocopy of working holiday visa

※ Please note

1. The arrangement of small or big group class will depend on the result of class placement test.

2. All foreign students who come to Taiwan to study Chinese with visitor visa (FR type) are required to register for a minimum of 15 hours per week to maintain their qualification of visa extension.

3. The Government's regulation of entry permit applications for studying Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan should be "OVER 2 MONTHS".

4. There will be extra fee for textbook and insurance.

5. The elective courses are only available at least 5 or more people register in.

School Introduction:
In 1955, thanks to the whole-hearted efforts of Taiwanese educators and Christians, Tunghai University was established in Taichung City , a great place for a university thanks to its geographic beauty and convenience. To serve the foreign staff of the university, the Chinese Language Centre was established in 1970, the first such centre in central Taiwan . The CLC is nestled within beautiful trees, flowers, and bird songs, making it an excellent place for learning Chinese.
 
Through Tunghai international education has steadily promoted and Chinese education become common gradually, more and more international students and expatriates choose Tunghai University to have culture and academic exchange. The Chinese Language Centre in Tunghai provides courses of Chinese learning not only to international students, but also expatriates. To face the variety of instruction patterns in recent society­- “No limitation in classes, no boundary on learning.” Besides, in person classes of Chinese courses, our centre also provides expatriates online Chinese courses.
 
Chinese learning and instructions have been valued in Taiwan recently so our centre initiated “teacher education of Chinese”. It’s for people who want to become an excellent Chinese teacher or interested in teaching Chinese. Additionally, we initiated central “online teacher education of Chinese” and it has promoted Chinese teacher education in Taiwan.

We at the Language Centre see the interaction of real life experience and language study as very important, and hope that our students will use the skills they acquire in their lives. The combination of linguistic expression with linguistic activity is an extremely effective teaching strategy, thus the CLC promotes language instruction that is connected to real life language, based on communication between teacher and students, and which allows students the opportunity to express themselves in real situations.

Aside from language classes, complementary culture classes allow the students to experience Chinese culture firsthand. Drama classes also allow students to engage their bodies in the Chinese language and, through role-play and dramatization, experience otherwise hidden facets of Chinese society, all while improving their language skills. We care deeply about the results of students' study, and we happily assist all of our students to achieve their academic and linguistic goals.
