The Tamkang University Chinese Language Center was established in 1991. Its mission is to promote Chinese language and culture, offering a conducive learning environment for people from around the world who are interested in learning Chinese. The center encourages international students to interact with Taiwanese students, providing them with opportunities to further experience Chinese culture.

Professional Courses and Faculty

The center offers a wide range of professional Chinese language courses designed by certified teachers who hold the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) qualification. This ensures that students receive high-quality Chinese language instruction.

Over 70% of Faculty Hold Master’s Degrees

Currently, all our Chinese language teachers are native speakers, with over 70% holding a master's degree. Each teacher is certified by the Ministry of Education to teach Chinese as a foreign language, and several of them are also involved in designing questions for the TOCFL exam. Many of our teachers have teaching experience at overseas universities or Chinese schools and serve as guest lecturers for teacher training programs at various institutions, ensuring a strong faculty lineup.

Learning Chinese While Experiencing Chinese Culture

The center’s programs include cultural courses that allow students to experience Chinese culture firsthand. These courses cover activities such as diabolo spinning, Chinese chess, drumming, Chinese knot-making, and tea ceremonies. Each cultural course is led by the most professional instructors, and students not only participate in the activities but also learn about the history and cultural background behind them. Every instructor has their unique teaching style, helping students gain a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture while learning the language.

Comprehensive Support from Life Advisors

The center provides life advisors who are proficient in English or other foreign languages. Before the courses start, advisors are recruited and trained. These advisors also serve as guides for outdoor activities and field trips, ensuring students are well cared for both academically and in daily life. The close-knit living arrangements foster connections between Taiwanese and international students, boosting motivation for learning Chinese.
