Class Introduction:

Short-term Mandarin Course Overview

This course is designed for Mandarin learners, covering content from the Beginner to the Elementary level. The aim is to enhance students' language skills and cultural understanding. With 15 hours of instruction per week for a total of 120 hours, learners can master Mandarin in a relaxed environment. The course emphasizes practicality, combining language learning with cultural experiences, allowing students to deepen their understanding of Taiwan’s diverse culture while enhancing their language skills. Students will boost their confidence through interactive learning, laying a solid foundation for future language acquisition.

Course Structure

  1. Beginner Level

    • Learning Objectives:
      • Familiarize with Pinyin.
      • Master the basic stroke order, structure, and components of Chinese characters.
      • Learn 40 basic grammatical points and 300 foundational vocabulary words.
      • Apply familiar vocabulary and grammar to meet everyday communication needs.
      • Enhance learning motivation through the freshness of cultural immersion.
    • Textbooks:
      • Practical Audio-Visual Chinese Volume 1 (Lessons 1-8)
      • Flashcards: Pinyin cards, character cards, sentence pattern cards, thematic situation cards, etc.
      • Thematic cultural experience materials (teacher-created).
      • Online educational resources and digital teaching software.
      • Multimedia self-study materials and supplemental readings from the library.
  2. Elementary Level

    • Learning Objectives:
      • Use a holistic language learning approach to meet daily communication needs.
      • Learn 80 basic grammatical points and 600 foundational vocabulary words.
      • Strengthen reading and writing abilities based on existing vocabulary, grammar, and functional themes.
      • Introduce the cultural aspects of Mandarin communication through curiosity about cross-cultural "cognitive conflicts."
      • Appreciate the beauty of Taiwan’s multiculturalism.
      • Assist learners in preparing for the TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) Beginner level.
    • Textbooks:
      • Practical Audio-Visual Chinese Volume 1 (Lessons 9-12) and Volume 2 (Lessons 1-6).
      • Understanding Taiwan's multiculturalism (teacher-created).
      • Local culture and customs exploration materials (teacher-created).
      • Online educational resources and digital teaching software.
      • Multimedia self-study materials and supplemental readings from the library.
