2026 NCNU Chinese Program Quarter-based Course

Class Introduction:

1. Course Information

We offer a comprehensive Chinese language program ranging from beginner to advanced levels. All students are required to take a placement test before enrollment to ensure they are placed in a class appropriate to their language proficiency.

  1. Class Schedule: Monday to Friday, totaling 15 hours per week.
  2. Academic Terms: The program is divided into four terms—Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Each term lasts 12 weeks, with a total of 180 instructional hours.
  3. Course Levels: Courses range from Preparatory Level (Pre-A1) to Advanced Level (B2), aligned with the TOCFL proficiency levels.
  4. Small Class Size: Classes are opened with a minimum of 6 students, ensuring high-quality interaction and effective learning.

2. Program Features

  1. Balanced Skill Development: The curriculum integrates the four essential language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—while incorporating practical themes related to daily life such as food, clothing, housing, and transportation.

  2. Professional Teaching Materials and Digital Innovation: The primary textbook is A Course in Contemporary Chinese, supplemented by Contemporary Chinese (New Edition) and materials developed by the center. Digital resources and multimedia tools are incorporated into teaching to enhance learning motivation and effectiveness.

  3. One-on-One Chinese Learning Assistants: Students receive one hour of free tutoring consultation each week, where trained language assistants help address individual learning difficulties.

  4. Immersive Language Application: The program emphasizes using Chinese in real-life situations. Students are guided to explore local communities, traditional markets, and night markets to practice practical Chinese in everyday contexts.

3. Cultural Activities and Field Trips

In addition to classroom learning, we organize a variety of cultural experiences that allow students to gain deeper insight into Taiwanese life. Each academic term includes themed cultural activities and field trips, such as:

  1. Puli Market Cultural Tour

  2. Guangxing Paper Mill Cultural Experience
